Orange Coast College/Marketing & PR Department:

While attending Orange Coast College, I had the great opportunity to work as a student assistant in the campus Marketing and Public Relations department. At the time they were on the search for a Public Relations Specialist; and so, I was able to step up to write press releases, media advisories, newsletter & magazine features and head the main social media account.

For my work, I received awards from National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR), District 6, for social media page, social media post excellence in writing (short form). In my time with the department, I worked to share the story of the community of the campus through the people and the '“why” behind the events and programs. Being able to utilize and strengthen my skills as a writer, photographer designer and liaison between the campus and the community were invaluable to me.

This opportunity helped me to grow my skills:

  • strategic communications - with the M&PR team (Director, Photography, Video, Graphic Design, Webmaster and clients)

  • campus connections - with the President’s office, departments heads, professors, staff and peers

  • time management - balancing home, college, work
